Does The World Need Vista?

Trully that I am not oftenly seen Vista on internet. Does the World Need Vista? I'm not so sure that Vista is even necessary at this point in time. As I continue to use Vista and Microsoft continues to refine their betas (Currently at 5472), this has been a question that has been nagging at me. The biggest reason that's offered up when I take this topic to the forums is that Microsoft needed to create a new OS because of security concerns with XP. That there is a void for a really secure Microsoft OS. Does any mature Microsoft user REALLY think that with all the new code being introduced into this OS, it's going to be much more secure?

Ummm it's going to be different..maybe a little more secure but much more secure?? I doubt that.

Why do I doubt that? Two fundamental reasons.

1) History (look at all the releases that have come before)

2) The beta process. This open beta process has been interesting and along with all the good civil people helping to beta test, hackers now have a head start on exploring and cracking this O.S.

So we can argue security (especially for the enterprise) and Vista all day long but I would also like to explore another angle.

If you take a look at the features that Vista is offering, you'll see a lot of stand alone products.

Microsoft Mail (Basically Outlook express)
Microsoft Defender
Windows Media Center
Windows DVD Maker
Windows Fax and Scan
Windows Calendar
Windows Meeting Space
People near me
Windows Photo Gallery
Windows Movie Maker
Windows Contacts
Windows Sidebar

It can be argued that these and several other Vista offerings could have been offered as updates to XP and/or separate products. This is where the concept of Microsoft as a monopoly comes in. These products (if released separately) would probably not be able to dominate their respective markets.

For instance:

Media Center is cool but there are much better media players (WinDVD etc).
Defender is cute but there's Spysweeper, Adaware and Spyware Doctor.
Meeting Space would face stiff competition from several collaboration software vendors.

You get the picture.

BUT, if you had a new Operating System, well, instantly you have millions of customers who would not ordinarily have touched these products..

Now, I like Microsoft. I also think the idea of a new O.S. is healthy and exciting for the marketplace. It keeps Apple (the competition) on their toes and thus fulfills the mandate of a capitalist market.

I wanted Vista to be exciting and offer exceptional value but it seems to me, Vista should have had one major objective:

To be MUCH MUCH better than XP and Windows 2003.

Windows XP and Windows 2003 were really good Operating Systems and it would be hard to claim that they didn't provide overwhelming value compared to their predecessors.

Today, I use a dual boot PC with Windows 2003 and Windows Vista (5456) installed.

It's a testament to Microsoft that today I can dual boot into Vista beta and use it for days on end. It is a solid beta. It is a strong product. It is very stable. It's pretty.

A Tale of Internet Shenanigans

by Gene Heratori
This had been a notable week in terms of the deluge of news articles regarding Internet fraud. Perhaps the summer heat and the forecast of temperatures rising into the 100s have an overall noxious effect on people’s behavior, compelling them to acquire the demeanor of cyber-villains in the same way that a full moon has been known to induce aggressiveness. Whatever the case may be, here is a recap that pushes the limits of the imagination:

I. The Trojan Horse and The MySpace.com Space Out

Remarkably, an online advertiser managed to insert the coding of a Trojan horse program into a banner advertisement running on the MySpace.com network. Visitors using older versions of Internet Explorer may have been infected. In effect, the way older versions of this browser process Windows Metafile images would have left them vulnerable to both hackers and adware programs alike. All of the estimates I’ve read indicated that the number may have been over one million MySpace.com users.

The Trojan horse coding itself does not distribute the unwanted pop up ads that plague infected computers. Rather, a Trojan horse covertly installs itself onto the user’s computers opening a line of communication with an outside server that downloads adware programs and other malware onto the users’ hard drives. I wonder why online advertisers are willing to subject themselves to lawsuits and criminal prosecution by choosing a ride on the Trojan horse??

What you can do to avoid this from happening to you: A tech-savvy friend once told me to download Mozilla Firefox as a way to avoid having my computer infected by simply visiting a page with a Trojan type program on it. Internet Explorer has also developed a patch that resolves this vulnerability to Windows Metafile images for aficionados who are loyal to this browser. If you’re a content publisher looking to earn revenue by displaying banner ads on your site, you should set in place a system of monitoring banner ads that you receive from your individual advertisers. Content publishers using third party advertising networks to distribute banner websites, should make sure your networks have taken appropriate measures to screen the banners before distribution.

II. Click Fraud Practitioners Beware!

Google is becoming even more proactive. Guys: do you remember your high school quarterback who was good looking, got into an Ivy League on a full scholarship, and yet still managed to be humble about it? Didn’t it annoy you! That must be how Google makes the competition feel. Last week, an Information Systems Professor at NYU by the name of Dr. Alexander Tuzhilin indicated that Google is and has been taking appropriate measures to handle the problem of click fraud for the benefit of their advertisers. According to Tuzhilin, Google’s team of Click Quality inspectors systematically covers all four corners of “pre-filtering, online filtering, automated offline detection, and manual offline detection” while screening for invalid clicks.

Furthermore, a New York Times article indicates that Google plans on telling advertisers how many clicks are fraudulent. This transparency would be most reassuring, but for me this comes as no surprise. I remember receiving notice from Google that I had received a reimbursement in my Adwords account without me even having to ask for it. In my opinion, Google has already been on the ball in detecting click fraud for quite some time. Communicating this news to the public is done in order to reassure the nervous nellies of our space.

What you can do to avoid this from happening to you: If you’re a paid search advertiser, certain tracking and analytics software packages offer fraud detection tools. Keyword MAX for example offers a device called Click Auditor that appears on your screen as a gauge that looks like a speedometer, only instead of indicating speed, it detects the degree of fraud in your various paid search accounts. Paid search providers can detect an invalid click if it comes through a proxy server, through which a robot can send a request from more than one IP address.

Click fraud unfortunately happens, but with the proper tools, training, experience, and gut feeling, you can reduce the threat that it poses to you.

Look for more installments for this series in the next issue. Stay tuned!

How To Build An Internet Business Sucessful

I want to start build an internet business, but I just a beginner. If you can tell me how to build an Internet business fast and sucessful. This question was always say bye almost people to start business in internet. Everyday I talk with people who want to get started on the internet with their own business.

But the whole process seems a mystery to them whether they have an affiliate marketing program, a real estate course or they sell health and fitness products. The easiest way I found to walk people through the basic building blocks is to use a real life example of building a brick and mortar business. Success on the internet is possible when you know how to build it and drive targeted traffic to your website.

Let's say you wanted to open a coffee shop that would rival Starbuck's?. Where would you begin? You would probably want to do some kind of research to see how many coffee shops were in your town or city. After all, if there are 5 in a ten mile radius, you might want to think about a different location or how you would make your coffee shop unique enough to slaughter the competition.

1. Identify your niche
Well, it's not much different on the web. You want to first identify your niche. First, let's quickly explain what a niche is and isn't. If you are selling every affiliate marketing program under the sun, this is not a niche. A niche would be to focus on affiliate programs in a specific field like health and fitness. Then you want to find out what the top websites are by typing 'health and fitness' into Google. Here you can see the top 10 sites that Google says are important. Remember that even the category 'health and fitness' can be broken down into further niches like weight loss for women or top 20 health products for longevity. See what your competition is doing and how you could do it different or better.

Another way to look for niches is to use Overture's search term tool. Place your keyword in the box and hit go. Overture will spit out anything relevant to that keyword. It will show you possible niches you hadn't thought of and how many people search for that keyword. For example, you may put in coffee beans and it may show you that organically grown and processed coffee beans are all the rage.

2. Build a user friendly website
Back to the coffee shop. Next thing you might do is have the shop built in a good location where traffic can come and go easily. You too must build a website that has what people are looking for, is easy to navigate, easy to shop and checkout with friendly customer service. Tip: If you are selling weight loss products, don't try and sell power tools. While this may sound obvious, many people try to take the 'sell everything' they can approach and what happens is they end up selling nothing.

What will the environment of the coffee shop be like? What experience do you want your customers to have? Your customers will be entering your website with expectations of finding the information they need and the products they want. In that order. You might invite them to sign up for a free 7 part report on 'how to lose 10lbs guaranteed over the next 30 days eating healthy.' At the end of that report you can encourage them to look at your weight loss supplements or vitamins.

3. Good navigation
As in the coffee shop, have your items for sale laid out in a well organized fashion so the buyer can order exactly what they want with little effort except to give you their credit card number. It is best to have your products grouped and images optimized for fast page loads. Think about what you like. Do you want to see ten products described well on a page or fifty crammed in? As you would have nice displays in your coffee shop so will you on your website.

4. Offer something better than your competition does
What other things could you do to enhance your buyer's experience? In a coffee shop you could offer free samples of new drinks or have a discount card for people who drink coffee with you every morning. On your website, you can offer free tips, reports and discounts on volume buys
or repeat purchases.

5. Market wisely
So, how do you get people to come try your coffee shop? Typically, a brick and mortar business will advertise in the local paper. It may be that you have the coffee that is guaranteed to get them going in the morning, free internet access, homemade muffins or the freshest coffee beans
available. With your website, you may do pay-per-click advertising, exchange reciprocal links or write articles.

Traffic must come in the door of your website, like what they see and hopefully buy from you.

While most of these tips are common sense, it is amazing how few people actually use these critical ingredients in their online business. Pretend you are a customer arriving to your web store for the first time. What could you do to make the whole experience better?

You Don't Need More Traffic to Make More Money

by Adam McFarland
Every website owner has a somewhat unhealthy obsession with driving more traffic to their site. We all want more traffic, if for nothing else to be able to brag to others how many unique visitors we've received. Competition among web owners aside, actually doing something with that traffic is equally as important as getting it. Yet for some reason, most site owners make the mistake of focusing most of their time on getting more traffic and rarely, if ever, focus on improving their conversion rate.

What is a conversion?
A conversion happens whenever a visitor to your site performs a desired action. It might be purchasing a product, signing up for a newsletter, signing up for an account, or even clicking on an advertisement (although I'd advise against making the goal of your site to have someone click away from it). One way or another, if you have a site, you've got a desired action that you want the user to perform.

How big of a difference can it make?
Consider Company A and Company B. Both sell online subscriptions to their news services for a one-time fee of $100. They each attract 1000 unique visitors per day. Company A converts 2% of their visitors whereas Company B converts 5%. Big deal right? How much does 3% really matter? Well, Company A sells 20 subscriptions per day, or 7,300 per year for $730,000 of revenue. Not bad. But Company B sells 50 subscriptions per day, or 18,250 per year for $1,825,000 of revenue!

Without any variation in traffic, you can improve conversion rate on your site and drastically increase revenue. Now, is increasing from 2% to 5% going be a challenge? Certainly, but it is by no means impossible and in most cases is probably easier than you think.

What's a good conversion rate?
Some people will tell you that an “average” conversion rate is 2%-5% and an “amazing” conversion rate is 10%-15%. To me, that's a broad statement. I'm not saying that you should completely ignore those numbers, just that you should understand where they are coming from. Those numbers tend to apply to e-commerce sites selling to consumers. They also don't factor in where traffic is coming from, product pricing, and about a hundred other potential factors that could affect your conversion rate.

There are times when a 2% conversion rate is phenomenal. For example, if you are selling software licenses for $20,000, converting 1 in 50 visitors is pretty exemplary. On the flip side, if your goal is to have people sign up for a football newsletter and all of your traffic is coming from an ad you placed on NFL.com, 15% might be considered really poor.

My answer to “what's a good conversion rate” is any conversion rate that's better than your current one.

Start by doing a self-evaluation and set a baseline
Before you can even think about trying to increase your conversion rate, you need to have a system in place to track your current conversions. In its simplest form, conversion rate can be calculated by dividing the number of conversions into the number of visitors to your site for a specified time period. Most site owners will want more in depth statistics (such as what page visitors came from and what pages potential customers left their site from) so I would recommend a web analytics program like the free Google Analytics that provides in-depth reporting and can calculate your conversion rates for you.

How will I know if my changes worked?
In my mind, the only way to think about conversion rate is to start at your current rate and start striving to convert 100% of the visitors to your site. Is that ever going to happen? Probably not, but as Les Brown said - “shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.” Shoot for 100% conversion rate and even if you don't get there, in attempting to do so you'll be instilling the necessary qualities for amazing improvements.

With that in mind, you should begin the process of trying to improve your conversion rate from your baseline. The bad news when it comes to increasing conversion rate is that there is no “one thing” that every site owner can do to increase it. The good news is that there are literally thousands of things that you can try that might increase it. Each one of those things might help, or each might hurt.

And therein lies the key to success in increasing conversion rate – testing, evaluating, and then testing and evaluating some more. Each time you should be striving to “beat your previous best.” If you went from 2% to 2.2%, keep the change and try for 2.5% with your next change. If you went from 2% to 1.5%, undo the change and try to get back over 2% with your next change. In general, you should give a sufficient amount of time to evaluate a change – I generally use one month as a rule of thumb, but you should factor in how much traffic you get and how large the change is when determining how long collect data for before evaluating a change.

What type of changes should I make?
As I mentioned before, there are thousands of things that you can change that can affect conversion rates. So where should you start? Start by walking in the shoes of your customer. Using the example of an e-commerce site, there are several types of customers that find your site. For the customer looking to buy immediately, is it easy to find the “buy” button or do you have to look around for it? For the customer wanting more information (product info, shipping info, or info about your business), is that easy to find? And for customers just browsing, do you have a way to entice them to buy, or at least entice them to sign up for a newsletter so that you can try to convert them at a later time?

Asking yourself those questions should result in several subtle changes and probably a few not-so-subtle changes that you can make. In addition, ask yourself whether or not the design of your site - logo, layout, colors, and font - appeal to senses and make it easy for people to find what they're looking for.

You should also seriously consider the content of your text. Is it possible that some people don't understand what your product or service does? Could international users interpret your phrases differently than domestic users, and if so, is there a way you could re-word your copy to avoid confusion? Ad copy is a funny thing – a subtle word change can often drastically affect conversion rates. The only way to know is to test.

Remember, you should only make one change at a time to be able to properly evaluate it. Each change will help point you in the right direction of the next change. Much like SEO, increasing conversion rate is not a one time event, it is an improvement process that you facilitate over the life of your site. That said, it is not an extremely difficult process, and when used in conjunction with sound SEO it can bring results to your site that you could have never imagined.

Blogs Optimization Can Get You A PR6 In One Month

By: Laura Cozzi

Blogs Optimization, Blog Business Network, Optimize Blog.
I wasn't aware of the existence of this fabulous software until I read a brand new ebook about blogging. The writer of this ebook was recommending a totally new software that I have never heard of , so I was curious like a cat and went to the web site to check it out.

All that I could say was: "Wow".

Let's just put it this way:

What a webmaster or blogger needs: templates, content - lots of it, back links - tens of thousands of them, capacity of manipulating all this from one place plus SEO optimization, traffic, high PR, etc.

Now, we all have CPanels and loads of other softwares, each of them doing its thing.

But look at this testimonial here: "Considering my domain of only 1 month old using BlogSolution has gone from PR0 to PR6 and every site that I linked from my BS site is also a PR6. I am in absolute shock. Just from using BlogSolution."

Now, what can you say about that? Do you have that kind of software?

I looked up the blog solution forum ( yes, they have one). And guess what I found; that actually yes, the BlogSolution users do get those results.

I am totally amazed about how such a tool goes totally unknown to the majority of bloggers. Do you know how this software helps? Put your seat belt on:

- creates 1000s of blogs per second ( no BS)
- BlogSolution blogs: provide 1000s of one way links to your sites, get your sites indexed FAST in the search engines, draw thousands and thousands of SE spiders, can dramatically help your other site's rankings, and make adsense and affiliate income.
- all the blogs are keyword optimized - title, subtitle, etc.
- all the blogs have RSS feed - keyword optimized
- you can add /delete link(s) to one or all blogs with one click
- it has a clocking feature - if you are into that stuff
- BlogSolution grows and adds blogs naturally. This means it creates, updates, pings, etc etc without you having to lift a finger. They're called SmartJobs - create blogs even when you are not around.
- BlogSolution is the fastest mass blogging and pinging software on the internet. Of course, totally automated.

Completely plug and play. Effective for both beginner and expert. Flexibility. This system bends to what YOU want.
My article doesn't tell the whole story. Follow my link and get the whole thing. It will knock your socks off!
