SEO: 8 Successfull SEO techniques

1) Title Tag - The title tag is the most powerful on-site SEO technique you have, so use it creatively! What you place in the title tag should only be one thing, the exact keyword you used for the web page that you are trying to optimize. Every single web page should have it's own title tag.

2) ALT Tags - ALT tags were meant to be for text browsers because the images didn't show in text browsers and the ATL tags would tell the visitor what it's about. You should put your main keyword(s) in the ALT tags, but don't over do it because you could get dropped in the results or even worse banned for life!

3) Link Popularity - Link popularity is the most powerful SEO tool out of all them. Most search engines don't even consider web sites if there is not at least one or two links pointing to the web site. Having another site(s) link to your web site is important when it comes to getting your site a good ranking. Your keywords should be in the links you get and keep the keywords short. When you receive requests for a link exchange, check the site out before linking with them, check for spam (Repeat keywords, hidden text, etc.).

4) Keyword Density - This is also vital and should be used with research. You should use the keyword(s) once in the title tag, once in the heading tag, once in bold text, and get the density between 5% to 20% (Don't over do it!). Also use your keyword(s) both low and high on the web page, keyword(s) should be in the first sentence and in the last one.

5) Page Size - Your web page's speed is important to your visitors and the search engines. Why? Because the robots will be able to spider your web page faster and easier. Try your best to keep your web page over 5k and under 15k in size.

6) Rich Theme - Search engines are looking at themes more and more. Build content (Articles, FAQ, tips, etc.) much as possible and keep the web pages around 200 to 500 words. Create content that's related to your market and link them out to other related content on your site. Try to get 200 web pages or more.

7) Web Site Design - This is also important, if you want to get indexed! Text content should out weigh the HTML content. The pages should validate and be usable in all of today's leading edge browsers. Stay away from flash and Java Script, search engines dislike them both a lot.

8) Insite Cross Linking - This will help you get all of your web pages indexed by the search engines. Your web pages should be no more than three clicks away from the home page. Link to topic related quality content across your site. This will also help build you a better theme through out your web site. On every page you should link back to your home page and your main service(s).

Tricks for more clicks Using Images

As I do, I will find more tricks to get more visitor to clicks my website and my ads. Few tricks I've learn now this is the best you can do.

Human visitors and search engines robots that visit websites and index information about them look for different things in a page. People like to see an attractive layout with nice pictures and graphics, animation, easy-to-locate navigation, and friendly greetings like "Welcome to Annie's Online Shop" at the top of a page. Search engines, on the other hand, like sites that have lots of textual content, good site structure (sitemaps, consistent linking style), and a meaningful phrase such as “Chicago Area Florist” as the heading of a page. While search engines can read the "alt image” tags of graphics, they can not "look at" pictures the way a human visitor can, and far prefer text.

Replacing Text with Images

One way to work around this paradox is to shift some of the text that search engines have no interest in over to graphics. For example friendly greetings like "Welcome to Our Site" or "Annie's Online Shop" work best as header graphics.

Creating a header graphic in a graphic editing program like Photoshop, Illustrator, or Fireworks has the advantage of letting you know exactly what that part of your site will look like to visitors. If you create a header or navigation bar with text, you are limited to a common set of fonts. If you use a fancy font that is installed on your computer, your page will look great to you, but when a visitor who does not have that font on their computer visits your site, their browser's default font will be used and that nice aspect of your site will disappear. By making your header or navigation buttons images, you are free to use any of the fonts on your computer, and can be sure they will display the same way to your visitors.

Another advantage of using a header graphics is that you can remove words irrelevant to your target keywords from your textual content. When search engine robots visit a site, they read pages from left to right, top to bottom. The first 20-25 words and last 20-25 words of your text content are especially important, and you want to make sure to include your target keywords within these sections. If at all possible, your primary target keyword phrase should be the very first text in your page. That is, if you are able to make a natural-sounding sentence beginning with it. If your page begins with "Welcome to our site!", then you are pushing your keyword further away from the starting point of your text.

The first line of the main text on your page should be in heading format, with H1 tags (In html code it will look like this:

London Hotels

), and should contain your target keyword. However, you may want to add a greeting above the heading ("Welcome to Our Site!” for example). As this is a very general phrase, with no relevance to any target keyword, it is best to make this a graphic.

If your site already has a greeting such as "Welcome to Our Site" in text at the top of your main page, it is relatively easy to convert this to a graphic, as follows.

-Open your page in an internet browser.
-Push the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard.
-Open a photo editing program, such as Photoshop.
-Create a new document and select Edit>Paste or Ctrl+V on your keyboard. The screenshot will be pasted on the blank document.
-Crop the image down to just the word or phrase you would like to replace, with only a little blank space around the edges.
-Choose "Save as" or "Save for Web", saving the file in the "Images" folder of your site.
-In your site editor, such as Dreamweaver, simply open your page, delete that text, and drag and drop in the image you created. Save and upload your page.

Replacing Images with Text

Of course, the opposite might also be true of your current site: Your keywords might be displayed as graphics rather than text. In this case, you should either repeat those keywords in text in a way that looks natural, or get rid of the graphics all together and replace them with text. The important thing is that your target keyword appears as text, as close to the beginning of the page as possible, and within H1 tags.

Alt Image Tags

"Alt image" tags are short pieces of text that are associated with a graphic. If the graphic can not be displayed for some reason, or if someone has set up their browser to block images, the text is shown instead. (The "alt" is short for "alternative".) Also, browsers designed for the sight impaired read out the text content of pages, and read the alt image tags as a way of describing a page.

Here is what an image tag looks like in html code:
YOUR KEYWORD image

The alt image tag is this part:
alt="YOUR KEYWORD image"

You can type the alt image tags directly into the html code. However, most html editors, such as Dreamweaver, give you an easier way to add an alt tag, and you should check in your software's “Help” section.

Search engine robots do read and index alt image tags. However, since this text is normally hidden from human visitors, it is especially susceptible to keyword spamming (i.e. entering a massive string of keywords that "hide" behind the picture). For this reason, search engines are giving less importance to alt image tags. They still are important, though, and having the tags on your pages can give you a slight edge over competitor sites that don't have the tags. When adding alt image tags to your pages, keep the following points in mind:

-Don't go overboard. 4 or 5 words are plenty. Resist the temptation to pack in a long list of keywords, as this will potentially get your site penalized by search engines or blacklisted from their directories.
-The alt image tag should include the primary target keyword of your site.
-The tag text should make sense if someone actually read it, and actually describe what is shown in the graphic.
-Include "image," "photo," or "graphic" at the end of your short phrase. This prevents the search engines from flagging the tag as spam.

Using these techniques to organize the graphics on your site will give you a slight edge over the competition in the search engines.

The Easiest way for websites crawler

Making sure that your websites are fully crawlable is a key component for any search strategy, especially if you want your sites to rank well for multiple related keyword phrases or different products.

One of the ways that you can insure that a search engine spider crawls your site deeply is to provide it a road map of your site. This road map, called a "site map" is a very simple page (from a design standpoint) that only serves one purpose from a search engine optimizers point of view, to get those interior pages into a search engine's index.
A brief history of site maps . . .

Before site maps were recognized by the search engine optimization community as a tool for good search results, it was used by fortune 1000 companies to help visitors to their site find out where a particular service or product was located.

For example: If you want to do some sort of business with your bank online, you might find that their home page doesn't quite get you to the exact location on their site that you want.

After all, a typical bank might offer car loans, student loans, home loans, credit cards, investment accounts, mutual funds, etc.

If per chance you arrived at this banking site on a page other than the home page, you might get a little turned around from a site navigation standpoint.

So, site maps were created.

What is a site map?

A site map is a page that contains a basic HTML link to every page on that web site. Every page, not just your main topics but every page.

Site maps do not need to be fancy (in fact, it's better if they are not), they just need to contain a logical order and links to all of your pages.

How does this benefit us? Three ways . . .

First, a site map gives your customers an easy navigation system to every page in your web site. Now, don't confuse the use of a site map as a replacement for logical navigation on your regular pages. You want to make sure that your site can be navigated simply and easily from any page on your site.

However, some folks (a very small percentage) prefer to see the entire site's structure on one page and choose their destination from it.

Second, a site map is a fantastic way to get a search engine spider to see and crawl every single page in your site. When optimizing different pages in your web site for different keywords, a Site map is a perfect solution for ensuring that a spider can get to every one of those optimized pages.

Third, and this is big: A Site Map provides an opportunity to send link reputation to a particular page. Now, link reputation is a discussion that's beyond the scope of this aricle, but it is perhaps one of the most important factors in off Page search engine optimization.

You want the links on your Site Map Page to Say the right thing about the pages that they are linking to. It's like a vote. So, make sure that your site map is voting correctly for all of your interior pages.

Fourth, site maps are also an additional way to distribute Google page rank. If your site map is just one link off of the first page, it can pass a significant amount of Google page rank deep into your web site. This helps create a site structure where just about every internal page has the same chance of ranking as well as your home page.

Finally, site maps allow you to use dynamic linking strategies to control where page rank does and does not go throughout your site.

For example, a common mistake is to have a normal link to your privacy policy on every page of your site. In actuality, giving your privacy policy page the same page rank as every other page of the site is a big waste of whatever page rank you have available.

So use a good site map and you will reap the rewards.

How To make Inbound Link - Boost Your Page Rankings

Hopefully you will have read the fascinating story of search-advantage . com and how they have used Ecademy to boost their search engine ranking by linking.

This story alone proves the success sites are having with boosting their Search Engine positioning using links. However, once you have built your Ecademy link, what next? What else can you do to build quality inbound links?

The keywords here are quality and inbound. Preferably one way links, so they link to you and you don't have to link back. This kind of link is seen more as an endorsement rather than a two way link which is seen more as a commercial transaction.

So how do you get one way quality inbound links?

To be really honest, it is a fairly simple process yet will take time and you will want it to take time. Having no links one day and have 2,000 links the next does not look natural to any search engine and could flag your site as a bit spammy. Use the four techniques below to drive links to your site slowly. Make sure you do all four techniques, as in this way, you will be building a huge array of links for different sources. Some of these sources will take on a life of their own and you will start to get links automatically.

Technique 1

One of the best ways to get quick inbound links and traffic is to write and submit articles to Article Directory sites. There are lots of sites which are set up just to collect content. They allow visitors to copy the content and use it on their own websites.

You will add a resource box at the bottom of each article and it is here that you will be able to add links directly to your site. Normally you can have two links so use one for the home page and one for a product page. Keep them relevant to your business.

There are literally hundreds of article databases on the web where you can submit articles too. There are even tools to do this automatically for you.

Technique 2

Press Releases are a great way of getting inbound one way links for Newswires and it may also get picked up by Google News. You will not only get inbound links but real traffic directly from the stories you publish.

The best place to start submitting Press Releases is to PRWeb.

Technique 3

Submitting your site to Web Directories. These are a great way of building inbound links. Some charge a fee and some are free. For fee paying links, pay to be listed in the Yahoo! Directory. You can easily find hundreds of directories relevant to your site by searching Google. All the links for Web Directories will link to your home page but still mix up the link text. This works better than anything else and shows you are building links naturally.

Technique 4

Finally, you can buy inbound text links. Now while this sounds like the easier option, do not solely rely on this source of links - you still need to implement the other techniques to really make it work. They vary in price and are usually charged on a monthly basis. Make sure any links you do buy are only from topic related sites. Having links in from sites outside your industry will not do you any favours. You can find other Link sellers on Google if you search for Link Brokers.

In summary, these techniques are easy to implement into your marketing strategy and there are many ways to outsource all of this work.

The Cheap and Effective Ways to boost Website traffics

Traffic is the life's blood of your website. If you're not getting any visitors to your site, you are certainly not going to make any sales, and that means your site is a hobby instead of a money making business. If your site is indeed a hobby then the amount of traffic you get doesn't matter, but if it is a business, then it's an entirely different story.

If you are just starting out, you may be low on cash to throw at your new website. Being a little strapped for cash doesn't mean that you can't get the traffic you need to start making sales. There are several low cost ways to start the traffic ball rolling in your direction, and they are thing which you can do yourself with relative ease.

Writing and submitting articles to article directories is a highly effective way to establish both a link back to your site and to gain the attention of the people who would be interested in what you have to offer. Articles are good for establishing a long term pathway to your website. You can even find niche article sites that cater to specific niches, so make sure you search for those when finding directories to submit to.

Using Search Engine Optimization will also increase your chances of showing up in web searches for your site's topic. Some people think SEO is really difficult to understand and implement, but it's really not hard at all. Having your keyword in your domain name, title tag, image alt tags and on the first paragraph is the type of things which SEO encompasses. See, it's not that bad at all is it?

To get a little quick exposure for your site, you can create a blog account at Blogger.com and then link back to your site. The posts made at a Blogger.com blog are easily picked up by the search engines. To make the most of your new blog, be sure to post three or four times daily with short posts which contain your keyword. Your site will be frequently updated if you link to it in your Blogger.com account. Blogging is easy and using Blogger.com is free.

Remember that forums can be one of your site's best friends. By frequenting related forums and participating by making well informed useful posts, you can increase traffic to you're your site. Most forums allow signature files, and you can put your site URL in your signature file for the forum visitors to see and search engines to find. Never set up a new account for any forum just to go post one liners or non informative posts. This not only makes you a forum spammer, it ruins any chances you had to develop any networking relationships within the forum community.

So there you have some simple, very effective and cheap ways to get visitors to your new or existing website. By implementing the techniques discussed, you should be guaranteed a steady stream of targeted traffic.

HOw To Drive Traffic to Your Blog

Like any website you own, you must do some blog promotion to start driving traffic to your site. Here are 16 steps, in no particular order of importance, that you can start doing now to get traffic moving to your blog.

1. Set up a Bloglet subscription form on your blog and invite everyone in your network to subscribe: family, friends, colleagues, clients, associates.

2. Set up a feed on MyYahoo.com so your site gets regularly spidered by the Yahoo search engine (see tutorial on http://www.biztipsblog.com)

http://www.my.yahoo.com

3. Read and comment on other blogs that are in your target niche. Don't write things like "nice blog" or "great post." Write intelligent, useful comments with a link to your blog.

4. Use Ping-0-matic to ping blog directories. Do this every time you publish.

http://www.pingomatic.com

5. Submit your blog to traditional search engines: http://www.submitfire.com

6. Submit your blog to blog directories. The most comprehensive list of directories is on this site:

http://www.masternewmedia.org/rss/top55/

Tip: Create a form to track your submissions; this can take several hours when you first start so schedule an hour a day for submitting or hire a VA to do it for you.

7. Add a link to your blog in your email signature file.

8. Put a link to your blog on every page of your website.

9. If you publish a newsletter, make sure you have a link to your blog in every issue.

10. Include a link to your blog as a standard part of all outgoing correspondence such as autoresponder sequences, sales letters, reports, white papers, etc.

11. Print your blog URL on your business cards, brochures and flyers.

12. Make sure you have an RSS feed URL that people can subscribe to. The acronym RSS means Rich Site Summary, or some may consider its meaning as Really Simple Syndication. It is a document type that lists updates of websites or blogs available for syndication. These RSS documents (also known as 'feeds') may be read using aggregators (news readers). RSS feeds may show headlines only or both headlines and summaries.

To learn how news aggregators/RSS readers work, see this site: http://www.rss-specifications.com/rss-readers.htm

13. Post often to keep attracting your subscribers to come back and refer you to others in their networks; include links to other blogs, articles and websites in your posts

14. Use Trackback links when you quote or refer to other blog posts. What is TrackBack? Essentially what this does is send a message from one server to another server letting it know you have posted a reference to their post. The beauty is that a link to your blog is now included on their site.

15. Write articles to post around the web in article directories. Include a link to your blog in the author info box (See example in our signature below).

16. Make a commitment to blog everyday. 10 minutes a day can help increase your traffic as new content attracts search engine spiders. Put it on your calendar as a task every day at the same time.

Tip: Use a hit counter to track your visitor stats: how many unique visitors, how many page views, average length of visit. You can get a free hit counter at http://www.sitemeter.com

Take a Closer Look at Key Email

by Daryl Eames
Email marketers rely on customers to tell us if we are doing a good job in delivering relevant content. We receive and interpret that customer feedback through email metrics. These metrics tell us if people are opening our email when they receive it, what action they take after reviewing the content, and if our message has successfully prompted them to action. We then analyze the information provided to us by our metrics data and adjust our email program strategy--continuously fine tuning the process and gauging our success.

But are these metrics we rely on to guide us accurate? And just how reliable are the industry benchmarks we measure ourselves against? What do all these metrics truly speak to? To answer these questions we start by looking at the human behavior behind the metric.

The process looks something like this:
1. We produce and send an email.
2. The recipient checks and receives our email.
3. The recipient either opens or deletes the email.
4. If the recipient has chosen to open, their options are either to click a link or delete after viewing the content.
5. Finally, they either convert or leave our site.

Three key metrics relate to these behaviors--open, click through, and conversion rates.

Dissecting the open rate
The industry standard for measuring open rates is opens-to-emails delivered. Open rates speak to the quality of list, cleanliness of list, segmentation, brand loyalty, perceived value, subject line etc. This equation makes sense for the most part, since a cleaner list should equate to higher open percentages. However, it assumes a constant cleaning cycle for your list. Those marketers who clean their list infrequently will see dramatic increases in open percentages after a list cleanse that is not supported by an increase in the actual number of emails opened. This gain slowly decreases over time as the list grows, until the next cleanse takes place. Therefore, these percentages do not compare apples to apples when reviewed against one another. Take a look at the fluctuations in an actual case sample below.

Email 1: (Pre cleanse) 19.7% Open Rate. 11,342 Opens.
Email 2: (Post cleanse) 40.0% Open Rate. 11,007 Opens.
What appears to be a 20.3% increase in the open rate is actually a 2.9% decrease in the actual number of opens.

The click through quandary
But wait, it gets worse! Should your email recipient open your email, they will review the content and then choose to either click a link, or delete the email. The industry standard for measuring this action (or lack thereof) is click thruoughs-to-emails delivered. What? Was I absent from class on click through equation day? How does the number of emails that get delivered speak to the content and message of my email?

The answer to how this equation developed can be found within the history of the Direct Marketing industry. This equation was developed in the early days of technology- limited email marketing, when direct marketers were measuring direct mail response rates based on the number of orders against the total pieces they mailed. Direct marketers had no way to track how many people actually opened and read their marketing piece. Technology quickly advanced to where we can now measure how many people open our emails, but the click through rate equation has failed to reflect these advancements.

A click through relates to the relevance of content, perceived value of the content, effectiveness of offers, sense of urgency, timeliness etc. Since someone who does not open your email cannot ‘vote’ on your content, why would we measure our click through rate against the number of emails delivered?

The result is that when you clean your list, your click through percentage increases dramatically, even if the actual number of clicks doesn’t change much at all. If we rely on this information, we make inaccurate determinations about the content of our email. Look at what happened in our actual case sample.

Email 1: 4.7% Click Through Rate. 2,685 Unique Clicks.
Email 2: 10.2% Click Through Rate. 2,795 Unique Clicks.
What appears to be a 5.5% increase in CTR is really only a 4% increase in the actual number of unique clicks.

The true measure of content is how many people click, measured against how many people actually see your content. Take a look at what happens in our actual case sample when we measure clicks-to-opens.

Email 1: 23.7% Click Through Rate. 11,342 Opens. 2,685 Clicks.
Email 2: 25.4% Click Through Rate. 11,007 Opens. 2,795 Clicks.
We see an increase of 1.7% in CTR based on how many people actually opened and reviewed the content of the email and then clicked. This is a much more accurate gauge of your content and message.

Conversions--this one must be easy!
Now that we are all scratching our heads in a state of confusion, we have to move on to calculating and analyzing the next step in recipient behavior--conversions. How do we calculate conversions to provide meaningful data? This is a scenario where you will want to look at two equations--conversions measured against opens and against clicks.

Conversions-to-opens is a good indicator of the actual value of your content and call to action to the people who reviewed your email. Conversions-to-clicks is an important gauge of the success of converting those who were prompted to action by your content and message. Both have value in their feedback to us as marketers. Let’s look at our actual case sample.

Email 1: 11,342 Opens. 85 Conversions. .75% conversion rate.
Email 1: 2685 Clicks. 85 Conversions. 3.2% conversion rate.
The first metric speaks to how well you convert those who viewed your message. The second speaks to how well you convert those who were prompted to action by your message.

How about those industry benchmarks?
The first problem is that only those benchmarks best segmented for your industry are remotely relevant. But what about the accuracy of those benchmarks? If you consider the problem with the industry standard equations discussed above, add to that the varying list growth and cleansing strategies of the companies they measure, we can conclude that these benchmarks are misleading at best. Since this is the only conceivable reason to calculate click through percentages using the industry standard equation, it completes the argument for moving to the new conversion rate calculation of click throughs-to-opens.

Take those pesky industry benchmarks, and file them in the cylindrical file. Create and set goals based on your own benchmarks over time, and strive to focus on what really does count--the experience of your email recipients!

4 Step to get Google Crawl Your Site

Want your site quick spider by google ? Here the tips.
By Creating a Google Sitemap using free online tools you can get Google to crawl your site within 24 Hours. As an Added bonus after Google Crawls your site they give you feedback about any problems they encountered. To take advantage of this amazing service from yahoo just follow these 4 simple steps.

Step 1 Get a Google Site Map Account
In order to create a Google Sitemap account just cut and paste the below URL in your browser and follow the simple directions, https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login)

Step 2 Create Your Site map
You can create your Sitemap either as an XML file or a TXT file. XML is the PPreferred method since you can give Google more information about your Web Site. You do not need to know XML to create a Google Sitemap. Not with this free web based tool. Simply go to the below web site type in your domain and it will automatically spider your site and create a Google Site Map for you. http://www.sitemapspal.com/

If You prefer to use a text file simply following the below direction taken directly from the Google Help File (https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/docs/en/other.html)

Google accepts simple text files that list URLs. As the text files contain only a list of URLs, Google prefers that you use the Sitemap protocol so you can provide additional information about your URLs. The text file must follow these guidelines:

# The text file must have one URL per line. The URLs cannot contain embedded new lines.

# You must fully specify URLs as Google attempts to crawl them exactly as provided.

# Each text file can contain a maximum of 50,000 URLs. If you site includes more than 50,000 URLs, you can separate the list into multiple text files and submit each one separately.

# The text file must use UTF-8 encoding. You can specify this when you save the file (for instance, in Notepad, this is listed in the Encoding menu of the Save As dialog box).

# The text file should contain no information other than the list of URLs.

# The text file should contain no header or footer information.

# You can name the text file anything you wish. Google recommends giving the file a .text extension to identify it as a text file (for instance, sitemap.txt).

# You should upload the text file to the highest-level directory you want search engines to crawl and make sure that you don't list URLs in the text file that are located in a higher-level directory.

Step 3 Upload your Site Map File To Your Web Page
Once you have created an XML or TXT Sitemap using the instructions in Step 2 you would just upload it to your web page either by FTP or by using the Cpanel from your Web Host.

Step 4 Tell Google
The last step in this process is to tell Google about your Sitemap. You simply Log In to your Google site map account and add the URL of you Site Map. Be sure and check back a few hours later to make sure it uploaded correctly. https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login

Now be sure and repeat the above 4 Steps whenever you change your website

Bonus Step 5
After Google has read your Sitemap and crawled your site (usually 12-24 Hours) you will see a verify link next to your Sitemap name. Click the link and Google will instruct you to create a blank file and place it on your Web Page, Once you have done that Google will tell you any problems it encountered crawling your Page

Optimization using images on your website

There are several important factors to consider when optimizing images on your site:

File Names:
Giving pictures an appropriate filename will help search engines determine its contents, especially for image specific searches like Google's Image Search. For example, naming a picture of a butterfly "butterfly.jpg" is better than naming it "1234.jpg".

Image Size and Quality:
The fact that both image size and quality are important causes problems for site owners. Lower quality images increase loading speed, but hurt rankings in image searches and detract from the overall user experience. Higher quality images help in image search rankings and look great, but cause pages to load slowly, which can be a problem for visitors with slow connection speeds.

I've found that the best way to get the best of both worlds is to have a small, lower quality image on the page that links to a higher quality image file. That way the page can be loaded and viewed quickly, but users wanting a closer look can click the image, and image searches will have a high quality image to index (increasing your chances of ranking high). For example, on an e-commerce site, it makes sense to place small thumbnail images next to the description of an item and then link the thumbnail to a higher quality image of the item for potential buyers looking to get a closer look.

Alt Text:
All images should include short alt text that describes the image. Alt text helps search engine spiders understand what your image contains, which will help them to understand the context of your page better, and in turn pass you more targeted traffic via search and image search. Alt text also helps screen readers tell disabled visitors what the image contains, enhancing their experience on your site.

A properly formatted HTML image tag with alt text looks like this:
Descriptive alt text here

Surrounding Text and Captions:
It is important that the surrounding text and image captions are consistent with the content of the picture. According to the Google Images FAQ:

"Google analyzes the text on the page adjacent to the image, the image caption and dozens of other factors to determine the image content. Google also uses sophisticated algorithms to remove duplicates and ensure that the highest quality images are presented first in your results."
Avoid Putting Text in Images:
There are some occasions where text in an image is necessary, but in general it should be avoided at all costs. It's common practice to use images with text in headers or other important parts of the page, usually because of the background or surrounding logos. While alt text certainly helps, it's best to have the text actually readable by search engine spiders and screen readers.

A simple alternative is to create your graphic with everything but the text, write the text by itself (formatted to your liking using CSS), and then make the graphic a background image of the text (also using CSS). This makes it look like the text is part of the graphic, when in reality it is part of the HTML.

You can see an example of this by going to http://www.seo-playbook.com/image_example.php. You'll notice that both images look the same, but the second one doesn't include the "Page Title" in the image. Instead, it is part of the HTML code on the page. When Googlebot comes and visits a page like that, it will be able to read that "Page Title" is a page heading and incorporate that accordingly into their results.

Why RSS so important - place it in your sites

RSS and Blogs are the topics of the moment. Seems like everyone is talking about it. Granted, thereis too much hype about RSS and Blogs.

But where there's hype - there's interest!

And with good reason - RSS is posed to be the break out technology of 2005. Those who don't takefull advantage of it will be left behind.

If you need convincing - here are 10 reasons why you should put RSS on your site:

1. It's easy and fast! Not to mention Free! You can use a free service like eBlogger and publish your Blog and RSS feed within minutes. You can even place or publish your Blog/RSS Feed on your own site without knowing 'html' or 'xml'. It's all done for you!

Repeat - it's simple to use and very convenient. Publishing your blog is only a few clicks away. (If you need help - just use the link at the end of this article.)

2. Syndicate Your Content. RSS stands for 'really simple syndication' and it's just another way of passing along your information. With the popularity of 'MyYahoo' and the 'Firefox' browser (which has abuilt-in RSS feed reader) - syndicating your content has gotten even simpler.

The next version of Windows is reportly scheduled to have a RSS feature. If this happens - RSS will explode.

3. Get Your Content Indexed. Using blogs to publish your content is a neat way of side stepping the regularindexing procedure. It gets your content indexed very quickly in most of the search engines.

Search Engines are constantly on the lookout for 'fresh content' - these 'link rich' blogs are a good source of this content. Because blogs are on specific topics - they have a concentrated source of good quality informational material to serve up!

4. Instant Contact. Blogs give you instant contactwith your readers or viewers. We live in an 'instant'society - we want everything five minutes ago. Blogs provide this instant gratification. Readers or viewers using MyYahoo have an instant link to your information or postings.

RSS Feeds will instantly spread your information to all interested parties - bringing in targeted traffic.

5. Building Your List. People who pick up your RSS feed or add you to their MyYahoo site - become your subscribers. You are really building your contact list. Have a popular blog or RSS Feed and you can build a large targeted contact list very quickly.

It might not replace your old opt-in email list - but it can be a lucrative addition to it! Take advantage of all those targeted contacts.

6. Link Building. Blogs are link heavens! Build your links thru blogs. All these links will boost your linkpopularity and increase your search engine rankings.

Plus, by giving viewers/readers a way of adding your RSS Feed creates targeted links to your site. Thisreason alone is why your site should have RSS!

7. Viewer/Subscriber Feedback. Instant feedback from your subscribers or viewers is easy with blogs. Creatingtrust and credibility is so much easier when there isimmediate communication between the two parties.

8. Keyword Content Building. Blogs are especially good for building 'keyword targeted content' for your site. All these links will boost your keyword rankings in the search engines. Google places a high value on 'anchor text' and blogs are a good place to put all those links.

You can also start different blogs targeted at 'specific related keywords' covering the major topics of your site. Again, search engines love related keyword linking so you can boost your site's rankingsby using blogs.

9. Monetize Your Content. Blogs are an excellent wayof monetizing your content. Blog sites like Eblogger(owned by Google) even encourages you to use the'adsense code' in your blogs. If you have a popular blog - this may bring in extra income.

Plus, publishing your ezine or newsletter in a blogcan bring in revenue for months if not years to come. All those affiliate links and product promotions get indexed by the search engines and become accessible to a wider audience, i.e. market.

10. Because Everyone Else is Doing It! Might sounda bit 'Jonesish' but you do have to keep up with what other web sites are doing. To remain competitive - you MUST put RSS on your site.

Sites without the 'AddtoMyYahoo' link or the 'xml' button will be the exception rather than the rule in just a few years - if not months. It's simply another way of getting your information 'out there'. It's an opportunity and advantage that you cannotafford to miss.

Proceed without RSS at your own risk!

Use RSS for Your Blog - Get benefit

RSS can benefit your blogging activites in two different ways: it can help you generate traffic and it can help you retain traffic. RSS can benefit your traffic-generation efforts by adding fresh, optimized content to your blog automatically; and it can benefit your traffic retention rate by providing better, updated content for your blog visitors.

If you own a blog, you will have to constantly update it with fresh content, so you can ping more often and so you can get higher rankings for your targeted keyphrases. Aggregating and using RSS feeds can benefit your blogging activities significantly by allowing you to add fresh, targeted content to your blog without actually updating it yourself. Whenever a search engine visitors your blog, it will record your RSS feed updates as fresh and possibly unique, targeted content.

Now you can further enhance the amount of unique visitors you get by using RSS to syndicate your updates. In addition to netting you several backlinks on blogs and websites (which will increase your offpage search engine optimization score), it will also net you some unique visitors through direct links from other blogs and sites.

If your site aggregates a number of important authority sites via RSS feed, you will become an authority site aggregator at the very least, which is useful for people looking to find authority sites on your given topic.

RSS can benefit your blog by generating traffic – by improving your actual search engine rankings and by increasing the amount of direct click-thrus you receive – and by helping you retain traffic – by positioning your site as an authority aggregator and by providing better, original content for blog visitors.

Blogs can Explode your Business

By: Shakil Zaman

How Blogs can Explode your Online Business. They’re popping up everywhere. Your favorite website has one. Your favorite television show has one. Even your teenager has one. Blogs. What are they? Why are they everywhere you look? Should you consider creating one to complement your online business?

Most simply put, blogs are like journals—only, instead of being made of the paper and cardboard kept secret by an even thinner piece of cardboard and a lock your baby brother frequently opened with a paperclip, these journals are online. Why does it seem like everyone has one? Well, because almost everyone does. And there’s good reason. Blogs can be used as journals, both private and public; they can be used as ways for fans to discuss the latest episode of their favorite sitcom; or, they can be used by major companies, especially those that are Internet-based, because unlike the traditional forms of advertising, blogs bring in more traffic.

For business purposes, there are many ways companies use blogs. For example, a company may have several blogs on its website, each one dedicated to something different: customer concerns, product updates, etc. In addition to being helpful to customers and other website visitors, these blogs bring in more traffic to the website, as well. Depending on the website, more traffic usually means more money. And more money means—that’s right—you’re on your way to that summer home in the Hamptons!

So, how exactly do blogs bring in more traffic? Well, Adsense ads with Google are a good starting point. The search engine visits your page more each time your update, ultimately moving your blog higher and higher on the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page) and leading to more revenue from the ads being represented in your blog.

Some pointers? First, the blogger will need to decide what he or she is going to write about. Choose a popular topic, one that people are interested in. “Underwater Basket Weaving” probably wouldn’t be a very wise choice as not many people seem to be interested in it. Unless, of course, you’re business is underwater basket weaving, in which case you should by all means write about it.

Next, focus on some keywords—these are the words that search engines are going to pick up on. Don’t dowse your blog in these words, but use them whenever you effectively can, ideally at the top of your own posts either in the headline or first few paragraphs. Lastly, make sure you write content that will attract, and keep, a strong readership. You want your readers to keep coming back, right?

Also, ensure that you are adding valuable content related to your online business to your blog on a regular basis, at least once every two to three days. Everytime you update your blog make sure to ping your blog using a service like Pingomatic. Pinging your blog lets the blog directories know that you have just updated your blog. One reason why blogs are powerful is that the search engines love blog sites since they are constantly being updated with fresh new content.

Submit your blog to the blog search engines by simply doing a search for ‘blog search engines’ in Google or Yahoo and then submitting your blog url to them. A great way to increase traffic to your blog is by visiting blogs in your niche of similar content and leaving useful comments regarding topics posted in those blogs. When you leave a comment, you are also allowed to leave your blog url so when others read your comment they can then go to your blog to find out more about you.

Last, but not least, you must have a passion for the topic you have chosen in your blog. Remember, other people are looking to get value from the information
on your blog so if you are not passionate about your blog’s topic then it will show in the quality of the information on your blog. You must love what you do
or at least learn to fall in love with it.

Go ahead, join the millions of people and businesses alike. Get yourself a blog. Or corner your boss and suggest writing one for your company. Explain how blogs bring in more traffic, more traffic means more money, and more money means—that’s right again!—you’re on your way to the Hamptons.

How to set up Your Site Perfect

It’s not talked about much, but woodland animals are notoriously unresponsive to advertising. That’s why you don’t expect to see many billboards when camping. The website of a brick-and-mortar business acts much like a cyber billboard, a vitally important informational hub placed on the Internet with anticipation that visitors will come across the site to explore its content. Yet, many businesses, particularly the small-to-midsized, have their websites built with no thought of its positioning or upkeep; inevitably these websites are parked in the interactive weeds, lost in the woods of a different sort. Too many of these smaller businesses don’t realize the missed opportunities of an improperly aligned website. A representative website isn’t a box to be crossed off a to-do list for a business, but instead an integral component of today’s successful business.

Think of haphazardly positioned websites as being interactive slouches of sorts; they are out of shape web entities sure to be overlooked by search engines. In order to shape up, the sloppy website must shed its baggage and get toned. And like physical fitness there is no finish line, just positive results from proper maintenance. While no one will confuse ICMediaDirect.com with Bally’s or Equinox Gym anytime soon there are some common solutions hammered down for clients. Websites have got to become web conditioned or else stay unnoticed.

Hup, two, three, four…a web site in boot camp is treated a little differently than our GIs, perhaps more harshly even. The first thing we do is slap the website out of its isolation by building some links. This isolation, this lack of “link love” as it’s known, accounts for a great deal of why websites will sit unnoticed – and too often business owners are too busy to notice that their website is being ignored. And unless the business manager wants to drop everything and learn a new skill, he or she must find someone, a professional hopefully, to do this. There isn’t any getting around this. Search engine algorithms study links (as links serve as efficient e-recommendations) and do not reward an absence of them – at all.

A classic example of an isolated website that of a restaurant owned by a friend of mine. In the first dot-com boom he spent a good deal of money to build a state of the art website for his place. He loved the site, the staff and his friends loved the site, and everyone who was shown the site just loved it. But this was 1999 and search wasn’t a high priority; maybe it wasn’t wrong back then to just assume that people would find the site somehow.

The search process has improved like gangbusters since then and good real estate on the search engine results page (SERP) is at a premium. My friend’s website had been rendered invisible, lost in the weeds. People could only find it if they looked specifically for it by name; when using descriptive words such as “Lounge + New York City + Dancing”, it was not even in the top 100 mentioning of the major search engines. As far as interest generated via the Internet, he might as well have built a billboard in the woods.

And like an army recruit, candidates for web conditioning are broken down before they’re built up again, better and stronger. This means that instead of merely posting the facts of the website’s business with some nice pictures, we emphasize about what prospective customers might want it. For instance, an antique dealer specializing in foreign goods might think about what the kinds of items are most popular before creating a keyword list that people might enter into search engines when looking for those kinds of things, as opposed to just announcing themselves as a top dealer in foreign antiques. People want to find what sellers have, not just to find dealers. It sounds too obvious, but just look at how much advertising is wasted in announcing greatness – web copy for a business should be designed along the lines of appealing to the visitor, in anticipation of what they want. It’s how search works.

And once the visitor finds this site, the battle begins anew. The language, the same language that includes strategically placed keywords must now double as effective copy. The visitor’s attention must be held. This is the optimizing process, this is reworking a website. There are no shortcuts, no easy way to do it, but conditioning your website is like maintaining good health – it takes a bit of thought, some balance in the means of action, and regular check ups. It’s a lot to list now, but thinking right about websites done wrong is the first step to getting a website well again. If you have a friend or relative whose website is listless and ignored – do him or her a favor and tell them to get with the program.

3 Way To Get Hundreds Of Links To Your Blog

Everyone want to get hundreds even thousand links. How to get those links? Now you have to learn. Did you know that there are free ways that you can get links back to your blog overnight? That after a few days they can number in the hundreds?

No matter what you market on the internet at some point you'll face the issue of increasing the number of visitors to your site. What most people don't know is that there are literally hundreds of ways to get free traffic. Here we'll focus on three overlooked ways to get additional traffic to your site using a blog.

The third most overlooked way to bring traffic to your site with a blog is to read and comment on other blogs.

Now, maybe you've done this before but stopped, because you're
becoming concerned about being considered a link-spammer. In
that case, leave a link to your site after your comments, instead of in the comment form that hot links it.

In the near future, blogmasters will be able to use special code to prevent spam in their comments section, so this will become less of a concern.

Besides, getting clicks from people who read comments, or visits from search engine spiders through your comments, isn't necessarily your direct objective, though it's definitely a plus.

What you want to do via commenting is to enter the blog community that corresponds to your target market. Get to know who the players are and make agreements with them to cycle traffic between you.

Or lurk to find out where your target market typically hangs out when they're online ? you'd be surprised at how many inexpensive and targeted advertising sources you can find through this method.

(If you're looking to get linked, there's another way that we'll go over next.)

This tip alone has earned me a few dozen links from prominent blogs in the past four days alone.

These links are worth ten times a reciprocal link because they send targeted traffic from established sources, and come from experts with records of proven results.

You can be sure these kinds of people will check you out before they linked to you, since they may be judged by the quality of the information they share.

The second method to more blog traffic is the most confusing for newer people, and this is probably the reason its benefits remain overlooked.

In the simplest of terms, Trackback is kind of a remote commenting system that incorporates linking. It allows the reader to follow a topic around the web to see other bloggers remark on the same subject. It enables the publisher to remotely cite references to the issue on which they've written.

Once you've made yourself familiar with the blogging community you have entered, you can often pick up the pulse of conversations within your site's theme. Then, when you see issues that you want to expound on, you can send the other site a notification to let them know you cited them on your blog. That link will appear on their site, and often draws visitors to you.
Bloggers who use Trackback often enjoy greater control over
this function in their blogs than they do over linking, as they have the option to reject your reference - so there is a lesser incidence of fraudulent linking. That also gives your link a greater chance of being displayed.

So why don't more people use Trackback?

One reason is that what is arguably the most popular free blog system, Blogger, doesn't have Trackback. However, Haloscan.com can remedy this with their free service ? it's a cut and paste away.

Many new bloggers don't get what it is and how it differs from commenting. And of course, the dynamics of it are a little more complex than I've stated. But learn to use Trackback properly, and you won't need to beg for links to your site ever again.

It's harder to estimate an exact number of visitors that come as a result of trackback links. But if you posted five days out of seven, and was able to get a trackback link to your site three times a week, by the end of the year you'd have almost 150 topical links back to your site, which are more valued by search engines than a typical link trade with an unrelated site.

The most overlooked source of traffic for a blog is through article submission. To start with, turn your longer posts into articles and submitting them to ezines or directories. Look especially for directories that ask for the direct link to the article on your own site, and input the permanent link to the post on your blog.

Make sure that your Auto-Discovery tag is in place and it can mean hundreds more prospects, links and subscribers.

It's a shame this is the one of the least used traffic methods for most sites, let alone for blogs. In four days, this method generated just over 1000 visitors. 157 newsletter leads, 98 new feed subscribers, and 206 links to my site. You may not get these same results right away, but using these simple strategies can still get you more exposure than you have now.

These aren't normally the highest quality links, as they rarely make sure of anchor text. However, bloggers are citing me using Trackback, sometimes in lieu of linking to the site where they originally found the article.

To see this in action, do a search on "Can A Ping Really Help Your Blog Get Top Search Engine Rankings", the title of an article I submitted earlier this week.

That article was published within a week of this one- the results speak for themselves. Many of these sites aren't the ones where my articles are normally published.

There are, of course, plenty of other ways you can leverage the content in your blog or RSS feed to increase the traffic to your site. The methods outlined here may be a bit outside the norm, but, as you'll soon find, that's part of the reason they are so effective.

What will visitor eyes see through your website

By Kim Roach
When a visitor comes to your site, they take a particular path. Their eyes move in quick motion, hopping from one hotspot to the next. If you don't know how your visitors are traveling, your conversion rates will suffer dramatically. Fortunately, there is a company who has performed in-depth testing for you, revealing the common behaviors of people viewing web pages.

They track eye movements as a visitor travels through a website and how they scan any individual page. With this information, they have created heat maps to show where visitors focus most of their attention. On these heat maps, red areas are the most popular and blue areas are the least popular.

The company is known as Eyetrack and they began studying online behavior in 1999. Because of these studies they have been able to help web masters to improve their site designs, headlines, font sizes, navigation, article formats, and even their ads.

However, since the results comprise over 300 pages, I've provided you with the golden nuggets that can be gleaned from this study below.

Article Formats
Your visitors are certainly not reading your website word for word. They are scanning and picking out relevant information that they feel is important. Fortunately, you can attract your visitors to certain content simply by placing it in the right spots.

These simple changes can increase your sales, subscriber sign-ups, and your return on investment.

The headline, for example, is often the first element that people see on your site. To draw people into an article, you must have a compelling headline that speaks directly to your visitors needs and wants.

In fact, a change in the headline on a sales page can produce a 1,900% increase in sales. This is certainly an element that should not be taken lightly.

You might also want to begin your articles with a boldface introductory paragraph. 95 percent of readers in the Eyetrack study viewed all or part of the introduction when presented with an article to read.

On the Internet, where information abounds and the majority of people are paralyzed by information overload, most appreciate the addition of an introductory paragraph that summarizes your article.

Once they have come to the actual content, however, how do you get them to continue reading? There are a few formatting issues to keep in mind when designing the layout of your article.

You will definitely need to use short, snappy paragraphs. Eyetrack III research found that shorter paragraphs received twice as many eye fixations as those with longer paragraphs.

Most people also seem to focus on the left side of the page and look for related words that might entice them to read closer. Therefore, you will want to include some important keywords on the left-hand side of the page so that readers can quickly see them out and be pulled further into the material.

You can also encourage your readers to continue reading by using bolding and enticing sub headings.

Font Size
The Eyetrack III research discovered that smaller type encourages focused reading rather than scanning. Very interesting. In general, their testing found that people spent more time focused on small type than large type. The larger type resulted in increased scanning of the page. Of course, you don't want your visitors to be squinting to try and read your text. The key is to find the appropriate balance that will encourage readers to focus on your text more than they scan.

It was also found that underlined headlines discouraged readers from viewing the following text. Overall, visual breaks (such as a line or rule) discourage people from looking at items beyond the break.

Now, on to one of my favorite web design topics...

Navigation
Eyetracker found that navigation at the top of a homepage performed best, meaning that it was seen by the highest percentage of test subjects and looked at for the longest duration.

Your navigation is best placed on the top or left side of the page. Why? Simply because this is what people are used to. If you go along with the crowd, people are much more likely to effectively browse your website.

Advertising
So, what about ads? As you have probably heard, many people ignore ads. The online world has a massive case of banner blindness. However, good placement and design can often improve your results.

For example, ads in the top and left portions of a homepage receive the most attention.

Ads on the right side of the page don't do as well.
In addition, ads that are placed next to important editorial content can really help attract attention to the ads. These ads perform best when they are truly integrated into the actual content of the page.

If you are using images within your advertising, keep the following in mind.

Images receive much more attention if they are larger. For example, one of the test pages in the Eyetrack III test found that a postage-stamp sized image was viewed by 10 percent of the participants while an average sized photo (about 230 pixels wide and deep) drew the attention of 70 percent of the people.

Their research also showed that clean, clear faces in images attract more eye attention on homepages. So, if you are using small images within your advertisements, you may want to enlarge them a bit if you want people to be drawn to them.

On the other hand, people seem to avoid ads when a visual barrier is placed between the ad and the content.

These breaks can consist of either white space or a border.

Ads that blend into the look and feel of the page draw the most attention. In addition, text ads were also found to receive the most response.

By now, you may be wondering what these studies have shown about search engines. Exactly what do people look at when they are presented with a list of search engine results? Well, that is an excellent question and one that has been studied extensively.

A joint eye tracking study performed by search marketing firms Enquiro and Did-it and eye tracking firm Eyetools has shown that the majority of eye activity during a search happens within a triangle at the top of the search results page.

This area of maximum interest has been referred to as the "golden triangle". The study showed that the top 5 results (ones above the fold) received the most exposure.

Here is a chart showing the organic ranking visibility of the top 10 positions.
Rank 1 – 100%
Rank 2 – 100%
Rank 3 – 100%
Rank 4 – 85%
Rank 5 – 60%
Rank 6 – 50%
Rank 7 – 50%
Rank 8 – 30%
Rank 9 – 30%
Rank 10 – 20%

Side sponsored ads receive significantly less attention. Here is an overview of the visibility of the side sponsored ads based on position:
1 – 50%
2 – 40%
3 – 30%
4 – 20%
5 – 10%
6 – 10%
7 – 10%
8 – 10%

This is largely due to an "F" shaped scan pattern in which the eye tends to travel vertically along the far left side of the results and then scan to the right occasionally if something catches its attention.

These statistics show the importance of ranking well and also of using relevant keywords within your title and description. With a relevant and interesting title and description, you can attract more eyeballs within the search engine results.

As always, keep in mind that the information gleaned from these studies are simply a guide. Nothing can beat your own testing. If you don't have good content it doesn't matter how good your layout is.

However, by using some simple layout techniques, you can influence the path your visitors take within your website.

Tips To Get Indexed By Google In 5 Days Or Less

In the internet world "Google" website is the biggest search engine now with more than 300
million searches PER DAY. In other words you are losing out big time if your websites are not
one is listed in Google. Of course your web pages must be indexed by them in the first
place to guarantee any rankings.

Note : you will not get a lot of traffic if your site's not listed in the first 2 pages for all your correct keyword searches.

You can use any tools to get it. The best tool for generating focused keywords is really Ad Word Analyzer by Jeff Alderson. Alot of website did this.

Another software to achieve high rankings for these keywords, I'd recommend using a software like Traffic Equalizer, also by Jeff.

Now there are two easy way and tactics to overcome if you want to be indexed successfully:

(1) Your page should have at least one incoming link from another Google listed web page

(2) It takes at least 4-6 weeks to be indexed

I'll give you a no-brainer secret to solve these two obstacles, while virtually getting your web page to be indexed in 7 days or less. And this has got nothing to do with AdWords or paying thousands to SEO companies.

How?
You can use Google itself to get your own site indexed quickly!

The method’s to simply write articles, participate in forums or list your website in active directories.

Here’s what you have to do :
Search http://www.google.com for highly ranked and active article directories, forums, discussion lists related to your niche markets.

Submit your articles, link or posts to these high traffic sites. An example, participate in popular forums with your link in your signature file.

Google normally re-index such high traffic active sites every 5-7 days. When that happens, your own website url will be picked up and rotated to be indexed within 24 hours too.

Can you see how this method solve the two obstacles easily? You get a quality incoming link and get your site indexed at the same time.

Get Googled, get indexed, get going!

Note: The above technique may be affected by changes at Google.com in the future. However it’s still relevant at current time of writing.

Inside Linking Strategies

by Kim Roach
The mysterious links strategies already open talks between each webmaster forum and other blogger also. Basicaly the Links are the pathways by which all information on the Internet is connected. Whether you are traveling your preferred search engine or your favorite website, your paths are directed by the links you come in contact with.

Hence links have become the lifeblood of the Internet. Major search engines like Google evaluate your incoming links to help determine your search engine positions.
However, a link is much more than just a ranking factor. A quality inbound link can bring your website a steady stream of targeted traffic and buyers.

In this article I will reveal the untapped methods of obtaining quality inbound links. We all know that reciprocal links are dead. Smart internet marketers also know about the power of article marketing and rss syndication. This article looks to explore beyond those techniques, unveiling linking tactics that are largely undiscovered.

Read on to find out about which links you can gain to build buzz, how to leverage the power of wikis, why everyone needs an affiliate program, and how to use the web 2.0 craze to garner hundreds of high quality inbound links.

We will begin our journey with editorial link opportunities.

The right links can generate massive buzz and word of mouth marketing. This type of marketing can occur from links like Yahoo Picks, Forbes Best of the Web, and USA Today Hot Sites. Get listed on the following sites and you've certainly got a winner.

Yahoo Picks of the Day/Week
Forbes Best of the Web
USA Today Web Guide/Hot Sites
NY Public Library Best of the Web
Exploratorium Ten Cool Sites
Librarians Internet Index

Wikis
Wikis are some of the best sources for link building. With a bit of digging, you can find plenty of wiki pages with high link popularity and PageRank. Not to mention, many wikis rank well in the search engines. This is especially true for Wikipedia.
However, like everything, there is a wrong and right way to go about it. Many people try to spam wikis with hundreds of links. Because of this, there have been strict measures taken to find and eliminate these culprits.

To benefit from the Wiki community, you must be an active participant adding quality and relevant information to their collection of content. You must add value to a page. Once you have done this, you can then incorporate your link if it's a good fit.

However, don't just add information to pages that present linking opportunities. You should also be contributing to the wiki just for the sake of adding great content to the database. When appropriate, add quality links to articles, even links you do not control. Using this strategy, it is much more likely that you will be able to benefit from the many wikis available online.

To find potential linking opportunities, simply go to Google and type in %22your keywords%22 inurl:wiki. This will help you to find sites that have wikis related to your keywords. For example, if you are looking for wikis related to search engine marketing, you would type in %22search engine marketing%22 inurl:wiki.

For a comprehensive list of wikis you can start contributing to , go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wikis.

Library Sites
Ok. Are you ready for the MacDaddy of all links? You may be surprised to hear that some of the best links on the Web can only be obtained from public shool library Web sites. Yes I know, it's hard to believe that an unattractive school website that lives out in the .us or .org jungle would be of value to you. But in fact, these are some of the most trustworthy links you could ever hope to obtain.

Library web sites are some of the most trusted sources on the Internet and Google knows it. So, if you have an extremely valuable site that would prove a valuable resource to people around the world, then you should certainly get in contact with a librarian to suggest your site as an addition to their list of resources.

Below is a list of library sites to get you started:
Virginia Pubic Library Websites
Ohio Public Library Web Sites

Affiliate Links
Affiliate programs are one of the best ways to obtain thousands of inbound links to your site. With the right software, you can use an affiliate program to super charge your search engine rankings.

Using an affiliate program, you can get hundreds and even thousands of other people to promote your products with no risk on your part. Your affiliates send visitors to your web site using banner ads, text links, articles, and email promotions. For every visitor who decides to buy, you pay your affiliate a percentage of the sale.

The beauty of this system is that it allows you to create extra revenue without spending any additional advertising dollars. You can use affiliate marketing to explode your online sales and catapult your search engine rankings with no risk to you.

However, you have to make sure you have the right software to do this. Some affilate tracking software doesn't lend any link popularity back to your site.

Go to Assoctrac.com to find out about some very powerful affiliate software.

Press Releases
As I wrote about in a previous article, press releases enable you to tap into multiple news sites across the Internet, including Google News, Yahoo News, and MSNBC Searchbot.

In addition to attracting thousands of targeted visitors to your site, press releases can also create thousands of quality inbound links.

However, to realize the full potential of your press release campaign, you must take time to optimize your press release properly. Press releases should be optimized in much the same way that search engine optimization specialists optimize ordinary web pages to achieve higher rankings. By optimizing your press releases for the search engines, you will receive much higher visibility.

For example, one press release from MarketingExperiments.com resulted in 2,200 visitors and 5 interview requests by journalists. This is the power of a highly optimized press release.

Some of the best places to distribute your press release online include:
prweb.com
internet.com
businesswire.com
prnewswire.com
bacons.com

e-releases.com
prfree.com
pr.com
webwire.com
marketwire.com
24-7pressrelease.com
pressreleasenetwork.com
i-newswire.com

Start your own press campaign to begin creating invaluable buzz, attracting targeted visitors, and gaining thousands of inbound links.

Social Search Engines
With the growth of Web 2.0, social bookmarking services have become extremely popular this past year. However, these search engines are much more than simply a tool for searching and saving your favorite websites. These social communities can also drive massive amounts of traffic to your site and build brand awareness.

Popular submissions can expect to receive an onslaught of traffic. In addition, popular sites also receive an abundance of link love. These social search engines influence bloggers, publishers and journalists. On average, a website that is Dugg receives an average of 500 to a thousand new inbound links within a short period of time.

If you have a very informative site, your traffic may increase permanently after being Dugg. The key to succeeding with social search engines is to be a true contributor to the community. You must have quality content if you want to submit any of your links. Otherwise, you are simply wasting your time.

In addition, don't just submit your own links. Share the love and submit other sites that you feel would provide a great resource to the community.

Some of the best online social communities include:

Digg
del.icio.us

Furl
Shadows.com
MyWeb
StumbleUpon
PreFound
Technorati

In today's generation of web 2.0, publishers have been given multiple outlets for their work. It's time that we start taking advantage of the changes occurring in the online publishing world.

Podcast Syndication
Another publishing opportunity that is undergoing rapid growth online is podcasting. The Internet is changing. Broadband Internet connection is allowing millions of Internet users to start downloading podcasts on every imaginable topic, from search engine strategies to the adventures of parenting.

According to Forrester Research, podcasting will reach 12.3 million households by 2010. Unfortunately, many webmasters are not taking advantage of this amazing opportunity.

To begin marketing your own podcasts, submit them to the following directories:

PodcastingNews.com
MasterNewMedia.org

Integrating these new distribution models can vastly increase your exposure online.

New Forms of Article Syndication
Article syndication has become quite popular among internet marketers. It has enabled writers and website owners to gain hundreds of quality inbound links simply by syndicating their articles to article directories, article groups, related websites, and newsletter publications.
However, web 2.0 has transformed the publishing platforms that are available today. Because of this, there are now many more outlets for your articles and your valuable resource box. Fortunately for you, many online marketers have not spotted these opportunities so I advise you to jump on them quickly.

One of the most exciting new publishing platforms is Squidoo.

Squidoo was created by a revolutionary online thinker named Seth Godin. At Squidoo, you can create your very own lens, which is simply your view on a particular topic. This is a single web page that can point to blogs, favorite links, RSS feeds, Flickr photos, Google maps, eBay auctions, Amazon books and other resources.

Best of all, these lenses are getting traffic, credibility, and even showing up in top Google results. You can use a lens to increase the number of authoritative inbound links to your site, position yourself as an industry expert, announce the latest news within your niche, or promote your podcasts.

I've seen lenses ranging from a pagerank of 3 to 5. Below are some great examples:
FxBootcamp : PR4
Cool Latop Bags : PR5
To start your own lens, go to Squidoo.com.

The last linking opportunity in this series taps into one of the largest sites on the Internet.

Craigslist
Craigslist was founded in 1995 by Craig Newmark and serves billions of unique visitors each month. So, how can you use this to your benefit?

Classified ads can be very lucrative when used correctly. Since Craigslist is free, this is a great place to start with absolutely no risk.

Your presence within this massive site will increase your exposure and link popularity. Many of the ads also appear in Google and Yahoo. This is especially true for those who optimize their ad properly.

I would highly suggest that you incorporate CraigsList into your overall business plan. You can begin placing your own ads at CraigsList.

Now that you know about many of these untapped linking techniques, I urge you to begin your own campaign. Just remember, if you're not distributing quality content, you are simply wasting your time. The first step is to become an authoritative site. After that, you will find that links come quite naturally. In fact, many of them will come without ever asking for them.
